Better Know A Crafter: Jay Louis DeRose of Tinman Provisions

We see Jay almost every morning at our old 1 S. Broadway space - Happy Coffee. Not only does he make the best lattes, but he is also the owner of Tinman Provisions - a label where he creates belts, aprons, and other manly accoutrements.

Tell us about your crafty self.
I'm Italian and I'm from north Denver. I am a Coffee Professional, and a Gentleman. Sewing, woodworking, leather working, and metal working are just a few of my crafts. I make things for myself to use and enjoy, and if others like what I do, I will make things for them too.

Tell us about your aprons.
This project is a line of aprons for a local Barber Shop, Ollies. They consist of sewing and leather working. I created my own pattern and used a hemp/cotton ticking from Fancy Tiger Crafts.

How did you learn to sew?
I am a self taught crafter in the sewing and leather working department. The person who taught me is the coolest guy I know...hahaha

What is your favorite animal?
My favorite animal is Falcor - you know, from the Never Ending Story. My second favorite animal is a lynx

Better Know A Crafter: Jessica Storey

Jessica came into the store with the most adorable apron--and totally amazed us with the fact that she created her own pattern from a vintage apron. Nice work, Jessica!

What makes you want to be crafty?
I am a stay at home mom to my 3 little muses. I craft because I like to make things that are cute for my kids. I like to make things just to see if I can do it--mostly embroidery, needlefelting, quiet books and knitting.

Tell us about your apron.
My friend Heather and I were looking for cute aprons that didn't cost a fortune. She found one in an antique store that we completely tore apart to use for our pattern. We used material from Fancy Tiger and scrap bias tape and ric-rac from home.


How did you start sewing?
I began crafting after I had kids. When they were first born I was so bored, I just needed something to do. I just started doing stuff.

What is your favorite animal?
A dragonfly, but that is more of an insect, I guess.

Better Know A Crafter: Zer

Zer is one of our lovely craft night regulars. She knits, crochets, cross-stitches and sews, and has been stitching up some pretty cute aprons lately.

1) Tell us about the project you've made. What pattern and materials did you use?
Sew Liberated Emmeline Apron. I used all fabrics from Fancy Tiger--Prairie Gothic, Japanese and Jay McCarroll prints.

2) Tell us something about the person who taught you to do what you do.
My mom sewed a lot when I was young. She used to make Barbie clothes & matching dresses for me.

3) What is your favorite animal?
Kangaroo
