Better Know A Crafter: Bridget Evans

Bridget is new to sewing, but she is sure taking off with it! She came in on a Saturday to buy the supplies for this tote and wallet and returned two days later using her new handmade accessories. We love the colorful Amy Butler fabrics with her bright green coat and nail polish!

1) What makes you want to be crafty?
I love making gifts for family and friends on any occasion! I generally enjoy modge podge and making crazy necklaces. Crafts are a way for me to break out of stress caused by sitting in a cubicle all day.

2) Tell us about your sweet tote and wallet.
I made the Heather Bailey New Leaf Folding Tote and Wallet. I used Amy Butler Soul Blossoms fabric in Disco Flowers and Temple Tulips. It's my first project and it took about five hours, yay!

3) How did learn to sew?

I took Sewing 101, and also learned from my grandma and my dad! I found material I loved and got excited about the project!

4) What is your favorite animal?
G-raff

Thanks Bridget! Happy sewing!

Better Know A Crafter: Katrina Marsh Sarlin

Katrina visited us recently from Virginia. She came to our Sewing Help Night and made this adorable tote bag. Nice work Katrina, come back and visit anytime!

What kinds of crafts do you do?
I'm a project/program manager and I've always enjoyed working with my hands. Knitting, crochet, baking, cake-decorating, cross-stitch, polymer clay, sewing and photography.

Tell us about your tote bag.
It's a simple tote made from fabric and Japanese bag handles from Fancy Tiger. I used a $1 pattern from Joann's. I looked at quite a few and then winged it with the fabric I bought. I used heavy thread for sewing through the laminated fabric in fun colors. I came to the Wednesday night Sewing Help Night to use the sewing machines as I am traveling.

How did you learn to sew?
When I was a little girl, my father's mom sewed--actually both of my grandmothers did. They made whatever they needed. My father's mom used to make us bookbags and silky pillowcases.

Thanks Katrina! Happy crafting!

New Fabrics!

We have tons of new fabrics in! This tote features one print i am particularly in love with - its the "Patchwork Promenade" from Denyse Schmidt's new line of home dec weight fabrics. This fabric makes it look like I've been quilting all week!

This bag was super simple:
1/2 yd Patchwork Promenade
1 large Twinkle button
1 Olympus "leather" bag handle
1/2 yd Brown Twill for lining
1 yd interfacing

It whips up super-quick -no need for a pattern - just use the boxes in the fabric!
See you soon!!
