Yummy New Summer Yarns from Be Sweet!

Hooray for summer knitting! Two yarns have just arrived from Be Sweet in a plethora of pretty hues that will inspire you to knit all summer long!

Bambino is an adorable combo of organic cotton and silky bamboo. The two fibers are spun into separate plies that are unevenly plied together and the yarn is then hand-dyed for the most lovely hand-made look.

Be Sweet Bamboo is oh-so shiny and silky, a 100% bamboo yarn that is hand-dyed. The colors range from almost solids and semisolids to tone-on-tone variegated colors. It knits up into a lovely drapey fabric--perfect for summer cardigans and luxurious shawls. We love the idea of knitting a summertime Dandy Scarf from it!

Habu Textiles Super Fine Merino, Copper Yarns and Kusha Kusha Scarf!

We just received a box full of pretty cones from Habu Textiles!

N-75 Super Fine Merino
The Super Fine Merino, in an array of pretty, heathered hues, is our finest merino yarn and is perfect for sheer lace work.

N-83 Super Fine Copper | N-69B Copper Bamboo
You may know and love Habu's 100% superfine stainless yarn--now there is beautiful new 100% copper yarn! We love the warm peach tone the copper gives to the new N-69 Copper/Bamboo yarn.

Kusha Kusha Scarf

This crisp, light as air Kusha Kusha scarf used to be a kit, but now the yarns are available individually for a one-of-a-kind color combo of your choosing. The free pattern is translated into English on The Purl Bee blog. Thanks Purl Bee!

The Kusha Kusha scarf uses one skein each of the N-75 Super Fine Merino and the A-20 Silk/Stainless Steel. The stainless steel gives the yarn an amazing texture and memory and a very modern, crisp look. The new Bamboo/Copper yarn has the same effect and would be an amazing alternative to use!

Better Know A Crafter: Rick Rainy

We had a lot of people shopping this past month for Halloween costume crafting supplies. Rick wins our award for best hand-crafted costume. He made up his Max pattern from scratch and hand-stitched the entire thing. Dang. That's pretty amazing.

Rick Rainy

1) Tell us about yourself--what makes you want to be crafty?
I am an engineer who just relocated to Denver last month. I loved the Where the Wild Things Are book as a kid and wanted to make the costume for Halloween. This is my first major sewing project.

2) Tell us about making your sweet Max costume.
It is just hand-sewn using about 5 yards of white bamboo felt. I just measured myself without using any real patterns--although patterns would have made it easier. So just a pencil, ruler, needle and quilting thread.

3) How did you learn to sew?
I taught myself for this project and learned as I went.

4) What is your favorite animal?
The wild things, duh.

Thanks Rick! Happy crafting and engineering!

New! Bamboo Knit Jersey!

New at Fancy Tiger Crafts--bamboo jersey! We are so excited about sewing with jersey. This silky and stretchy bamboo fabric is naturally antibacterial, unbelievably soft and perfect for making your own tees or supersoft undies.

If you've never sewn with jersey before we have a great book with patterns and tips to get you going. Sew U Home Stretch by Wendy Mullin is a great intro to working with stretchy knits and includes customizable patterns for tees, tops, hoodies and dresses.

Emily already made this super adorable t-shirt! She made a pattern out of one of her favorite t-shirts and now she has another favorite bamboo t-shirt! So cute!
