Allison's Far Far Away Quilt
I have always been intimidated by quilting but once I saw the Far Far Away III collection by Heather Ross I knew I wanted to give it a try. I bought the fabric in November and hoped it would be a fun activity for me to do with my grandmother when she came to visit for the holidays. After a lot of debating and dreaming I decided to do a bunch of blocks with different colored borders to really showcase the fabric. A word of advice, if you don't know how to quilt ask a quilter for help. I asked the amazing ladies at Fancy Tiger and their tricks blew my mind (e.g. strip piecing!!!!!). The Practical Guide to Patchwork by Elizabeth Hartman was incredibly useful, she has a great tutorial on binding on her blog Oh! Fransson.
When I saw the finished quilt in my mind I saw it as a tied quilt. As much as I wanted to try to sew the layers together with a cute design I couldn't decide what to do. I am really happy with the finished results, I think it suits the character of the quilt well.
I love it!
For the back I used all of my leftover fabric and just sewed it together until it reached the size I needed.
I am happy I finally tried quilting. It's really fun and a great way to put together all of the fabrics you really love.

Heather Ross Far Far Away III Fabrics are Here!
New Heather Ross fabrics are here and they are cute as can be!
We have been eagerly anticipating Far Far Away III and can't wait to get sewing with it. Our favorite new print, and we think our friendly Breyer horse agrees, is the little girls playing with toy ponies fabric! And how about a ukulele dress for fall?

Amber's Fairytale Baby Quilt
I've been waiting to share this quilt because I had to keep it under wraps until my little niece was born! My sister-in-law just had her first baby and I just made my first ever baby quilt for her. (I've only made queen sized quilts before!)

I'm especially proud of this little quilt since it is the first time I've quilted the layers together myself. I usually send larger quilts out to a long arm quilter. Since this one was small enough to quilt on my home sewing machine I decided to give it a go. With some tips and encouragement from our quilting instructor, Jessica, everything went smoothly. I quilted it by stitching along the seams of the patchwork, stitch-in-the-ditch style.
The adorable prints of Heather Ross's Far, Far Away collection inspired me, full of imagery from fairy tales. I added a Kokka storybook print, Echino and Isso Ecco fabrics. There are altogether six stories in the quilt. Can you find them all?
The back of the quilt is a soft organic cotton flannel from Cloud 9. Perfect for wrapping cute babies up in. Welcome, darling sweet girl!

Jaime and Amber's Far Far Away Dress and Skirt!
Amber and I each made new outfits to wear to our 4 year anniversary party last weekend! We were so taken with the new Heather Ross fabric line that we decided to make coordinating outfits using different colorways of the same adorable rose print.

Amber created her own pattern for this gathered skirt. The weight of the fabric is perfect for feminine poufy-ness and we love the sophisticated colors of grey, mustard, cream and sky blue.

I used the Socialite Dress pattern by Anna Maria Horner to make my dress. I'd never used this pattern before and it was a breeze to sew up in time for the party! The fabric belt gives the dress shape and it is oh-so-comfortable to wear.

We love our new outfits! Perfect for strolling through fields of roses and days in the park. Summertime here we come!

Better Know A Crafter: Roxi
Roxi is the first crafty seamstress we know who has made the new Colette Macaron dress pattern. In fact, she's already made two Macaron dresses! We are so excited to see the Heather Ross Far Far Away unicorn print in her adorable little peach dress.
I'm a PhD student in creative writing at DU. I used to make zines and had a small press for a few years, but have been concentrating on writing lately. I've been obsessed with sewing this summer.
2) Tell us about the dresses you made.
I made the Macaron dress from Colette Patterns. I went to California for a week and my mom helped me; I had no idea how to transfer the markings and etc. The prints are cotton and the top is linen.

3) How did you learn how to sew?
My mom is a good seamstress but we have never really made anything together before, except a pillow when I was in 4H and another pillow for middle school home ec class. My grandmother started a pinwheel quilt but passed away before she finished it; when I was in high school I made hundreds of pinwheels until the quilt was done. I also recently took the a-line skirt class at Fancy Tiger and that helped me a lot with getting an idea of how to fashion a garment.
4) What is your favorite animal?
My cat Timber, he has CH (cerebellar hypoplasia).
Thanks Roxi! Happy sewing!
